The water hoglouse crawls along the bottom of the tray.

They look like woodlice and can be spotted crawling along the bottom of the tray as they are poor swimmers.

  • They have flattened bodies top to bottom (dorso-ventrally), like a leaf

  • Segmented bodies

  • Two pairs of antennae, one pair very long

  • 7 pairs of jointed legs

Water Hoglouse are grey-brown in colour and can be found in most waterbodies, where the current is not too strong.

They feed mostly on dead organic material.

Size: Can be up to 15mm
