Our Facilities

FBA has a range of facilities for research, conservation, training, seminars, workshops and conferences.

FBA’s head office (based at Lakeside, YMCA North Campus) is located on the shores of Windermere, England’s largest and most famous lake.

Our offices include a newly refurbished teaching laboratory, training room and a 50 capacity conference suite, small meeting room plus on-site catering facilities.

Our newly refurbished teaching laboratory ensures we can continue to deliver and expand our class leading training courses and workshops and at the same time, act as a hub for our volunteer citizen science projects.

FBA hatchery and rearing facility

The site, located at Windermere, is no longer used for aquaculture purposes. The primary purpose for this unique facility is aquatic species conservation action and collaborative freshwater research. We run England’s Pearl Mussel recovery and research programme at this site. This secure and discreet facility contains over 20 available circular tanks (volume 1.6 m3), fed with water that is pumped from the lake and can be delivered at individually controllable rates. The site has infrastructure that we plan to develop and refurbish for further aquatic species conservation, collaborative research and citizen science purposes.

We also have offices located on the banks of the River Frome, Dorset. The site was once used as a center for river research but was sold in 2019. However, FBA maintains a suite of offices on the site and a training room for courses and seminars.

We welcome approaches to discuss the collaborative use of our facilities for training, research or conference purposes.
