Other leeches can be a variety of shapes and colours .

Other leeches have a looping movement when they are not swimming, or an undulating movement if swimming. They may stick to the tray.

  • They have segmented bodies

  • No legs

  • Flattened top to bottom (dorso-ventrally), like a leaf

  • Eye spots located at the front or round the edge of the head (can be hard to see)

  • They have two suckers, one at each end of the body (the front sucker is often indistinct)

Leeches can be found stuck to rocks and plants. Most are predators (feeding on small invertebrates) or scavengers - a few species suck the blood of their hosts.

Can be confused with fish leeches or flatworms.

Size: Can be up to 80mm
