Gavin Sorby
Gavin has over 35 years post qualification experience and has been with Buttress for most of that time.
He has been Managing Director of Buttress since 2010 and has overseen a busy period for the practice: the studio is B:Corp accredited and a 100% employee owned business, with studios in Manchester and Leeds. During his time as MD the business has grown from a turnover of £2M to £8M. He has sought to strengthen the business by absorbing another Practice, rebranding and completely overhauling its IT systems, HR policies and processes at key stages in its growth.
He is APM qualified Project Manager and has worked in a number of sectors within the studio with a specific focus on commercial work. Gavin enjoys complex problems. His ability to see the ‘bigger picture’, understand different viewpoints and to get into the mind set of others is key to making complex issues simple, and to the quality of service Buttress delivers.
He is a strategist with a keen attention to detail and an ability to get on with people which has helped deliver a number of high quality commercial refurbishments, often within listed buildings.
Gavin's qualifications include: BA Architecture University of Newcastle upon Tyne Graduate Diploma in Architecture, Leeds RIBA, ARB, MAPM.
