Workshop (7 November 2006)

On 7th November 2006 a workshop was held to find out the priorities of support for freshwater recorders and schemes. The day was very well received and we even managed to fit in some sampling in Lake Windermere.

A number of priorities were identified:

Driving priority: get people recording
This requires various support:

  • Promotion, awareness raising
  • Introductory materials (& coursesΉ)
  • Training in volunteer support (management)
  • Tools to make recording easy:
    • How to guides
    • Easy online & offline submission & feedback
    • Web presence
    • Publishing

Fostering a recorders’ community to

  • Share knowledge
  • Provide mutual support
  • Provide a common voice (e.g. publicity campaigns, funding)

Funding

  • Small grants for travel expenses, etc.
  • Information for groups of schemes to go for larger funding.
