As a Regional Hub for the Riverfly Partnership (RP), the FBA held two training courses for Riverfly monitoring groups in the last month. The courses were run in conjunction with South Cumbria Rivers Trust, and were fully booked, with enthusiastic participants ignoring rather damp conditions (on the first course), and enjoying a field and lab based introduction to invertebrate sampling and identification for the RP monitoring method. The groups are now ready to go out and start monitoring their own stretches of river on a regular basis.
The new website for the Clear Waters oral history project has been launched by the Freshwater Biological Association. The website will be a source of information for people wanting to know more about the project, as well as for volunteers and people providing their memories for the Clear Waters project. Updates will be available on upcoming events and training. The website presents interesting stories collected so far and details on how to get involved in the project. Interviews with local people will be recorded during the summer and volunteers are currently being recruited to interview people, transcribe interviews, take photographs, research archives and record or film interviews.
